Sol Yurick, 87, Author of ‘The Warriors’ Gang Novel

The Warriors

It became the inspiration for the cult classic movie The Warriors. The novel begins with a quote from Anabasis upon which the novel is based. Throughout the novel, the character Junior reads a comic book version of the story. It is the evening of July 4. Gangs from all over the city, signaled by a Beatles song on the radio, head to the meeting place at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.


NYC will be having a meeting of warring gangs but things don't go as well as planned. This is the basis for one of my favorite movies, only because the film takes itself so seriously while being I was never a huge fan of the movie - it always felt a bit empty.
